Associate Attorneys

Every new associate is assigned a “Mentor” who is responsible for initial work assignments and early professional development. Aside from day-to-day training received from partners and senior associates, the firm conducts weekly training and CLE approved courses. In addition, the firm supports attendance at outside seminars pertaining to intellectual property and technology law topics. The firm also believes that it is useful in the development of patent practitioners to visit the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in Washington, D.C.

In addition to ongoing informal feedback associates are given one formal progress evaluation each year and a scheduled “informal” evaluation meeting mid-year.

Normal partnership track for our associates is six full years of IP prosecution practice, with at least two full years with the firm.

Our compensation system combines the necessity of efficiency in completing a high standard work product along with a billing threshold lower than most firms. Associates are paid a percentage of their collected billings. Additional bonus compensation can be earned by exceeding certain billing thresholds. With our annual minimum billing threshold of 1,500 hours, associates can enjoy competitive earnings with their peers, while having more time available for pursuing professional development and personal interests outside the office. We also offer a salary-based compensation plan that requires a higher billable hour commitment.
