Weaver Austin Villeneuve & Sampson LLP is seeking lateral patent agents, patent engineers and patent attorneys with at least two years of experience in patent preparation and prosecution. Applicants should have a background in computer science, computer engineering and/or electrical engineering. We are particularly interested in practitioners with advanced degrees or industry experience with 5G telecommunications, audio and video signal processing, integrated circuit design/architecture, database systems or statistical analysis. We are seeking motivated applicants who want a full-time position and full workload. You will join an incredible team of attorneys, agents, paralegals, and staff that represents a wide range of clients, including start-ups, large companies, and universities. Technical areas include those relating to semiconductor processing equipment and processes, wafer handling robots, wearable fitness devices, electrical connectors, smart window systems, satellite deployment mechanisms, rocket systems portable and laboratory assay devices, medical devices, casino gaming machines, fashion accessories (design), display technologies, MEMS devices, and electrolyzers.

Qualification Requirements: 

• Eligible to be admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) 

• B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in mechanical engineering or relevant field; or pertinent industry experience 

• 3 to 5 years of patent attorney or agent experience 

• Strong writing and communication skills 

• Interest in patent prosecution 

• Ability to work with colleagues in various time zones in the U.S.

We are actively seeking a senior patent attorney or patent agent with an advanced degree, preferably a Ph.D., in a life-science field, such as biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, or immunology, and at least 5 years of experience in preparing and prosecuting patent applications. Expertise in bioinformatics, chemistry, or materials science is a plus, but is not required.

The candidate should be comfortable working autonomously and have good client management skills. The firm expects to provide an increasing amount of work to a new life sciences practitioner; therefore, a book of business, while preferred, is not required. Firm life sciences clients include institutional clients that provide a wide variety of work, as well as companies, ranging from start-ups to large companies, working in the areas of nucleic acid sequencing and analysis, diagnostics, pharmaceuticals and treatment methods, drug delivery, and engineering of organisms to produce compounds of interest. The firm offers a great platform for the self-starter to develop their practice, as well as a collegial group of patent practitioners who value excellence to learn from and with.
