Ko-Fang Chang counsels clients from Fortune 100 companies to start-ups on patent prosecution and strategic IP portfolio development in a diverse range of technical areas, including semiconductor processing, 5G, wireless communications, networking, AR/VR, LEDs, optics, computer vision, machine learning/AI, autonomous driving, position location, sensors, liquid crystal films, computer architecture, and other electrical and computer related technologies.
He provides guidance on building optimal processes for invention disclosure, patent board review, prior art search, strategic filing decisions, and patent prosecution. He evaluates critical patent issues, including infringement and validity positions in litigation, acquisition, and licensing, and performs due diligence investigations and freedom-to-operate studies.
He also initiates and defends various types of patent review proceedings, including PTAB Inter Partes Review, Ex Parte Reexamination, Supplemental Examination, Reissue, and Amazon Patent Neutral Evaluation.
Ko-Fang has both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in electrical engineering from Rice University and a J.D. from the University of California at Berkeley. Prior to his legal career, he was an electrical engineer involved in waveform and spectrum design for satellite communication systems.
