Michael L. Day

Mr. Day’s practice focuses primarily on patent preparation and US and foreign patent prosecution in a variety of arts, including satellite systems and spacecraft technologies; semiconductor fabrication and inspection technologies, including programmable logic and flash memory devices; communication and data networks, including cryptography and Internet security; microelectromechanical systems and devices; and power and signal processing electronics.

Mr. Day counsels clients with respect to patentability, IP portfolio development, patent validity/invalidity and freedom to operate. He prepared and presents a popular introductory tutorial on patent law “Patent Law: An Introduction for Non-Lawyers”, a presentation suitable for inventors or corporate management that provides a simplified overview of patent law.

Prior to joining Weaver Austin Villeneuve & Sampson LLP, Mr. Day was an associate with SNR Denton.

Previously, Mr. Day was Intellectual Property Manager at Space Systems/Loral, and managed the company’s patent portfolio related to spacecraft communications equipment, antennas, power management, batteries and solar arrays, attitude control systems, orbits, thermal control, structures and advanced materials.

Mr. Day was the founding Vice President of International Space Technology, Inc., a Joint Venture between Space Systems/Loral and Russian partners directed toward commercialization of a novel satellite propulsion system using Russian thrusters and Western electronics. He was awarded the Yuri Gagarin Medal for contributions to cosmonautics by the Cosmonautics Federation of Russia for his role in this path-breaking enterprise.
